2015 Kentucky Derby odds: American Pharoah moves to 17th gate, still betting favorite

Kentucky Derby favorite American Pharoah will start from the 17th post, a position that has never won the Kentucky Derby, after Stanford scratched on Thursday.

The 2015 Kentucky Derby odds look a little bit different Friday morning after the scratch of Stanford, who was set to start in the No. 11 position in the 141st Run for the Roses. Derby-favorite American Pharoah now moves up into the 17th post, a position no horse has ever won from. Be that as it may, the colt, trained by Bob Baffert and jockeyed by Victor Espinoza, is still the popular bet at 5/2, in odds posted at Bovada.

Stanford was unlikely to win the Derby anyway, despite the good post. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Stanford had opened at 30/1 odds after a second-place finish in the Louisiana Derby.

Odds shifted slightly throughout, with Dortmund, an undefeated Baffert-trained horse starting from the eighth post, now at 3/1. Pletcher-trained colt Carpe Diem, who starts in the No. 2 post, follows at 8/1 odds, while Materiality follows at 12/1.

Frammento, trained by Nick Zito, will now start from the 20th post and has 50/1 odds.

The Kentucky Derby will be held about 6:25 p.m. (ET) on Saturday
