Just 11 months after being stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship due to injury, Daniel Bryan appeared on RAW Monday night to address the live audience and willingly vacate his Intercontinental Championship, also due to injury.
Daniel Bryan vacates WWE Intercontinental Championship due to injury
The fan favorite does not know when he will return to in-ring action, if ever.
Bryan -- who just won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania in March -- has been wrestling through nagging injuries to his shoulder and neck and, reportedly, a concussion. He told the RAW audience that he had an MRI on his shoulder last week and doctors were currently uncertain as to when he would be able to return to action, if ever. He stated that the WWE audience deserves the Intercontinental Championship to be with a fighting champion, mentioning candidates like Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose by name. He then officially vacated the title, leaving the belt in the middle of the ring before departing.
While fans will miss Bryan in action, he is still scheduled to be part of the panel on the rebooted Tough Enough, which begins airing in June. He also has a book out this summer.
