Could the long-rumored move finally be happening?

One of the best independent wrestlers in the modern era may finally be headed to WWE. Rumors have been flying for the past few months that the former TNA world champ is close to a deal with WWE to move to the NXT roster and it appears he could make his debut as soon as Wednesday’s WWE Network live event, NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.

The news comes from Reddit user falconarrow, who has been vetted by r/SquaredCircle moderators as having legitimate insider information. The report claims that Joe has signed a two-year contract and that after a short stint in NXT, he will move on to the main roster. falconarrow also claims that he will be keeping the “Samoa Joe” name.

Joe is partly famous for being the biggest and most highly-touted and beloved independent star of the millennium to have never signed with WWE. While Brian Danielson, CM Punk, Low-Ki, Paul London, Brian Kendrick, Tyler Black, El Generico and Kevin Steen have all gotten signed to WWE over the years, Samoa Joe has never made the jump, choosing instead to run with TNA’s Impact Wrestling for the past decade.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it could be the beginning of a true dream run for longtime independent wrestling fans. (And WWE fans, too.)
