Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green highlight NBA All-Defensive teams

The league announced its honors for the top defensive players in the game Wednesday.

Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green and Tony Allen are among the players honored on this year's NBA All-Defensive teams, which were announced by the league Wednesday. Those three highlight the first team, which also features a pair of Los Angeles Clippers, point guard Chris Paul and center DeAndre Jordan.

Leonard, the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, led all players by receiving 116 first-team votes and 10 second-place votes for a total of 242 points. He was just ahead of Green, who finished with 107 first-team votes and 229 points, and Allen, who finished with 88 first-team votes and 207 points.

The second team features a backcourt of Jimmy Butler and John Wall, with Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan and Andrew Bogut rounding out the group. Davis was the leading point-getting there, with 47 first-team votes and 155 points, while Duncan was the last guy in with five first-team votes and 64 points.

Davis, 22, led the NBA in blocks per game (2.9) and powered the Pelicans to their first postseason appearance since 2011. Butler and Allen were first and second in steals per game, respectively, with averages of 2.42 and 2.40. Leonard, on the other hand, didn't put up the big numbers, but anchored a strong Spurs defense with his unique ability to guard all five positions.

One interesting thing to note is turnover from last year’s All-Defensive teams. The only returning members from last year’s 10 honorees are Paul, Leonard and Butler. However, Jordan, Davis, Allen and Duncan were the next four point-getters a year ago, so it’s not as significant as it might look at first glance.
