The veteran outfielder received a standing ovation before the extra-base hit.

Hamilton received a standing ovation from the fans at Globe Life Park in Arlington before roping a first-pitch fastball from Boston Red Sox rookie Eduardo Rodriguez down the right field line. Rodriguez -- his first big league start -- retired the next two batters, stranding Hamilton at second base.
The Rangers acquired Hamilton from the Los Angeles Angels on April 27. At the time, the 34-year-old outfielder was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Hamilton appeared in 12 minor league rehab games to start his 2015 season, hitting a combined .364/.391/.545 for two Rangers affiliates.
Hamilton’s first stint with the Rangers came from 2008 through 2012. He compiled a .305/.363/.549 line in those five seasons before signing a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels in December 2012.
In his first series back with the Rangers, a three-game road set against the Cleveland Indians, Hamilton went 1-for-11 with a walk and four strikeouts.
