2015 Belmont Stakes post positions draw: Time and TV schedule

The draw for the final jewel of the Triple Crown will be held Wednesday morning as American Pharoah makes a run to become the 12th Triple Crown winner.

For the third time in four years, attention falls to the Belmont Stakes as a three-year-old colt makes a bid to join the the rare club of Triple Crown winners. In 2012 it was I’ll Have Another, and in 2014 California Chrome. Now in 2015, the horse with a misspelled name, American Pharoah, will attempt to become just the 12th to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. That’s a feat that hasn’t been done since 1978.

Post Positions Draw Update

The 1-1/2-mile race will take place Saturday in New York, but first the draw will be held 11:15 a.m. Wednesday morning at Rockefeller Center. You can watch the draw live on NYRA.com with interviews to follow.

Just eight horses are scheduled to line up as of this moment after two were pulled from the field earlier in the week. Joining Pharoah will be Frammento, Frosted, Keen Ice, Madefromlucky, Materiality, Mubtaahij and Tale of Verve. On Monday trainer Todd Pletcher announced Carpe Diem will be held out. Tale of Verve finished second in the Preakness Preakness behind Pharoah, while none of the other six contenders ran in the race.

Dortmund, the top challenger to Pharaoh in the first two jewels of the crown, will not race at Belmont. The field of eight is the smallest since 2007.

American Pharoah, trained by Bob Baffert, holds a six-race winning streak after losing in his first bid. He beat Firing Line by a length at the Kentucky Derby and ran down the backstretch at the Preakness unchallenged, winning by seven lengths.

The Belmont Stakes goes to post at approximately 6:50 p.m. Saturday.
