X Games Austin results, Day 1: Bryan Smith wins inaugural Flat Track race
Bryan Smith won the flat-track race after chain problems knocked Jared Mees out of the lead on the last lap.

Jared Mees, the reigning Grand National Champion, controlled the race until the final lap. But a mechanical issue knocked him out of the lead, opening the door for Smith. The native of Flint, Mich., who is sponsored by famous musician Kid Rock, took advantage en route to his second consecutive major flat-track event. Smith finished first in the Sacramento Mile, a 25-mile event that is part of the American Motorcycle Association Pro Flat Track racing circuit, last Saturday.
Sammy Halbert finished in second, taking home the silver medal. Brad Baker ended up with the bronze. Mees settled for 11th place. Despite the disappointing finish, Mees still made history by racing against his wife, Nichole. It was the first time a married couple has competed against each other at the X Games.
Family was a big theme at the flat-track event. Cory and Shayna Texter became the first brother and sister to race against one another in X Games history.

Moto X Step Up
Ronnie Renner, record holder and defending champion, won the Moto X Step Up final by clearing the bar at 34 feet. Three other riders -- Massimo Bianconcini, Libor Podmol and Bryce Hudson -- hit the bar in both attempts at that mark. Renner did the same in his first jump, but made his second attempt.
Renner now owns seven gold medals in the Step Up competition. Bianconcini, Podmol and Hudson finished in a three-way tie for silver.
