A busy first day of play at the 2015 Little League World Series on Friday was highlighted by Alex Edmonson of Northwood Little League in Taylors, S.C., who threw his second consecutive no-hitter, striking out 15 in a first-round win over Cranston Western Little League from Rhode Island.

Alex Edmonson threw a no-hitter on Friday for South Carolina in a 7-1 win over Rhode Island, one of eight games on Friday, the opening day of play in the 2015 Little League World Series.


In addition to his mound dominance, Edmonson was 3-for-4 at the plate with a two-run home run in South Carolina’s 7-1 win. They advance in the winners’ bracket to play the winner of Missouri vs. Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Edmonson didn’t have the only dominant pitching performance on Thursday. Matthew Wilkinson of Canada struck out 16 batters in five scoreless innings, but Mexico prevailed over Canada, 1-0, in six innings.
In another 1-0 contest, Isaac Garcia provided the only run of the game with a home run in Texas’ victory over Oregon.
The West team from Bonita, Calif. exploded for an 11-run third inning in a 14-2 triumph over the Great Lakes team from Bowling Green, Ky. California hit six home runs in the win.
