Severely mistreated underdog franchise was finally ready to take a stand against the NFL

If there is one franchise in the world with a right to be upset with the NFL and the way things operate there, obviously it’s New England. The oft-maligned Patriots have had a long offseason, with all the drama surrounding their shy, innocent quarterback and what he does with his balls. They were finally ready to take a stand Thursday night in the opening game of the NFL season.

Instead of raising the banner for their fourth, possibly cheating-supported Super Bowl, they were going to raise a banner in honor of their quarterback. Tom Brady, a name not many people know due to his quiet nature and by-the-rulebook behavior, almost missed out on the game due to the evil NFL. His team was ready to support him.

This is what sports is all about. Scrappy people who do nothing but work hard and play by the rules getting the respect they deserve. Thank you, New England Patriots, for being willing to take a stand against multi-billion dollar corporations. This is what we need more of.

For what it’s worth, apparently the plan was originally to use a Brady jersey.

“I’m going to give you a little secret,” Kraft said. “So if you look up there, you’ll see our Super Bowl banners, ‘01, ‘03, ‘04 and that fourth banner. If Brady weren’t playing, that would have been his shirt with Super Bowl MVP three times. We wouldn’t have unveiled our 2014 banner.”
