Joe Maddon has noticed something about the state of the Cubs’ infield. Specifically, that it’s a little uneven. He has a culprit in mind, though. From the Chicago Tribune:
Joe Maddon thinks AC/DC ruined Wrigley Field’s infield
The Cubs manager sure isn’t beating around the bush on this one.

“Since the AC/DC concert, we’ve had a little bit of trouble,” Maddon said in referring to the performance on Sept. 15. “I don’t know if they were out there taking ground balls before the game, or if they had 9-inch heels or spikes.
I have thoughts about this.

So Wrigley Field is all screwed up? Maddon is right to feel a little kicked in the teeth, because the last thing you want to happen in the postseason is to get caught with your pants down. The Cubs are as close to a championship as they’ve been in a decade, and you can’t even imagine the meltdown fans would have if someone hits a heatseeker deep in the hole, hitting off an infield patch that’s hard as a rock, making the shortstop look like he’s slipping on black ice and turning a landslide victory into a loss with a flick of the switch. Everything will have snowballed, and the furor would absolutely shake your foundations.
That’s the worst-case scenario, though. Can the infield cost the Cubs a postseason series? I’m sure there will be other reasons they lose the series if that happens: evil walks, with big balls that should have been called strikes, setting up the jack that ruins everything, while the spellbound pitcher who decided to give it up will go down realizing he’s a part of Cubs history for all the wrong reasons.
It’s not like AC/DC was breaking the rules by having the concert, but come hell or high water, someone better shake a leg and get that infield back in business. Money talks, of course, so it’s not like a reasonable proposal will get shot down in flames. I’d sure love to be a fly on the wall for that discussion.
Now, play ball.
