The Chicago Bears have had quite the difficult season. They’re now 1-4 on the year after a road loss to the struggling Indianapolis Colts.
Bears coach John Fox says the media should stick to their ‘hot dog-laden press box’
Fox didn’t appreciate a reporter questioning Brian Hoyer’s decision-making.

On the final offensive play for the Bears, Brian Hoyer tried to hit Cameron Meredith on a fourth-and-8 from the Colts’ 28-yard line to no avail. While Meredith had a great day with nine catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, the Bears’ No. 1 receiver, Alshon Jeffery, was wide open. The Bears lost, 29-23.
After the game, Bears head coach John Fox was asked about Hoyer’s decision-making on the team’s final offensive play of the game. Fox clearly wasn’t pleased with the reporter’s question, and gave an amazing answer:
There are a few things to dissect here. We’ll start serious first, and mention that Jay Cutler is hurt, which is why Hoyer was in the game in the first place. Hoyer’s been playing better than Cutler, and may have already taken his job anyway.
Hoyer passed for 397 yards on Sunday, good for fifth-most in a game in Bears franchise history, which certainly helps his case.
Second, “Had we had the coolness of the hot dog-laden press box,” might be one of the greatest quotes ever said after an NFL game.
This would have been a perfect opportunity for the reporter to come up with one of the best follow-up questions in NFL history, “Coach Fox, do you think a hot dog is a sandwich, or not?”
At the same time, we shouldn’t assume he’s talking about food. Fox could have been referencing a press box full of actual hot dogs, like this one!
Good dog!
