Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes made a statement with ‘broke athlete’ sign at ‘College GameDay’

The Venmo signs strike again.

Nigel Hayes is a basketball player at Wisconsin. He’s also pretty good. He was named Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, and was Wisconsin’s leading scorer last year.

He also says he’s broke.

Today, College GameDay is at Wisconsin.

Hayes showed up with this sign.

This is not the first time Hayes has spoken out. He’s used his own Twitter and interviews as platforms for his message.

He often engages with his followers to clarify his views.

So, now he’s using GameDay as his new platform. He’s going for the strategy lots of college students employ: asking for money. (Remember this guy?)

There’s just one small problem. The name on Hayes’ sign does not belong to his Venmo account.

Hayes does have a Venmo. It’s this one.

Maybe Hayes had a classic mix up — it is only one number, after all.

Maybe he’s just trying to make a statement.
