Knile Davis traded to the Packers

The Chiefs sent the fourth-year running back to Green Bay.

Knile Davis is now a member of the Green Bay Packers. The Kansas City Chiefs swapped the fourth-year running back on Tuesday morning, according to the Kansas City Star. Compensation has yet to be reported.

The move is mostly reflective of an injury-depleted Packers backfield. Eddie Lacy is dealing with an ankle injury that won’t seem to go away. James Starks is out after having knee surgery. The Packers were so desperate for help in Week 6, they were using receivers as running backs ... for more than just a specific play or two.

Davis hasn’t seen the field much with the Chiefs this year. He wasn’t even active in Sunday’s win over the Raiders. Jamaal Charles is back to full health, and Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West are doing most of the work in relief of Charles. Davis has just one carry and two catches in four games played this season.

The Chiefs have made Davis available before. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported in March that Davis had requested a trade. Trading for running backs isn’t a huge priority for most teams, until they get desperate for help during the season.

The Packers play the Bears this Thursday night at Lambeau Field. Already working on a short week, Davis might not see much work in the backfield. Then again, the Packers suddenly have an scent of desperation after losing an ugly one to the Cowboys on Sunday.
