“Our system is broken,” Steve Smith correctly pointed out. “We have valued the amount of air in a ball but yet devalued when a person or persons may have been harmed and fail to put forth necessary actions of energy and time in which far less important things have taken precedent,” the Ravens receiver said.
The NFL still cares more about Roger Goodell’s authority than domestic violence
The NFL fought tooth and nail when it came to Deflategate and the commissioner’s powers. It seems less concerned over the Josh Brown domestic violence situation, despite all the promises about getting serious on the subject in the wake of the Ray Rice incident.

And he's right. It's another NFL failure on domestic violence. The signs were there for the Giants and the league to deal firmly and definitively with Josh Brown. They didn't.
The league went all in to fight the Patriots and Tom Brady during Deflategate, mostly on the issue of Goodell’s authority to discipline players. And despite all the new hires and big talk about getting serious on domestic violence, the NFL’s action on domestic violence does not live up to its words.
Goodell should use some of that authority he fought so hard to get to suspend Brown.
Giants say they don’t condone domestic violence, yet they still “remain supportive” of Josh Brown. The Giants continue to publicly stand by Josh Brown. It’s absolutely impossible to reconcile this with the all the stuff that the NFL did to make it seem like it was going to do something about domestic violence in the wake of the Ray Rice incident in 2014.
Washington sheriff fires back at NFL over Josh Brown case. The NFL said that the King County Sheriff, John Urquhart, did not respond to requests for evidence and information in their investigation of Brown. The sheriff says it’s a little more complicated than that.
The NFL’s point person for domestic violence just so happens to be a dedicated Giants fan and season ticket holder.
Giants sign Robbie Gould to replace Josh Brown. Brown didn’t travel with the team to London, but the newly signed Gould did. Meanwhile, the Giants still haven’t cut Brown.
THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
The dink and dunk passing game got the Packers offense moving again. Rodgers averaged just over 5.8 yards per attempt on Thursday night against the Bears -- 326 yards on 56 attempts -- which is a long way from what we’re used to seeing from Rodgers. His career average of 7.9 yards per attempt. But it was EXACTLY what the Packers offense needed to get going.
Davante Adams might be the answer to Aaron Rodgers’ struggles. Adams helped solve Rodgers’ offensive troubles, at least for one night.
The Bears are 1-6 and dealing with even more injuries they couldn't afford. Brian Hoyer broke his arm, and on the same play offensive lineman Kyle Long got hurt too. "My arm is fucked up," is how Long described his injury.
PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?
How the Week 7 schedule could shape the playoff picture. The Steelers could break the Patriots’ stranglehold on the AFC this week.
INJURY REPORT
The Ravens are preparing like Joe Flacco won’t play on Sunday. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco sat out of Thursday’s practice due to a shoulder injury. Ryan Mallett would get the start in his place.
Terrelle Pryor could miss Week 7 with a hamstring injury. That would literally take the Browns’ best player off the field.
Carson Palmer missed a second consecutive practice for ailing Cardinals. The Cardinals are on alert with their quarterback.
Eddie Lacy placed to IR, leaving the Packers with a grab bag at running back. The Packers’ running back corps is down to an undrafted rookie, another team’s backup acquired via trade, and a converted wide receiver.
Tyler Eifert says he’s ready to go. Could Tyler Eifert actually play against the Browns? If it was up to him, he would.
DID SUH KICK ROETHLISBERGER?
Steelers file formal complaint saying Ndamukong Suh kicked Ben Roethlisberger.
The quarterback, who had surgery on his left knee Monday, had a bruised right knee Thursday at the team’s practice facility.
