Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has had a long, productive career, and now he owns the all-time record for consecutive field goals made with 43. He knocked a 28-yarder through against the Tennessee Titans Sunday to tie the record at 42, and broke the record with a 33-yard field goal later in the game.

The previous record holder, Mike Vanderjagt established the high mark while also with the Colts. Vanderjagt’s streak was broken when he missed a 48-yard attempt against the New England Patriots on the Monday Night Football opener in 2004. The Colts lost that game, 27-24.

Vinatieri is in his 21st NFL season, and at 43, he is the oldest player in the NFL. He was named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week following the Colts’ Week 5 win over the Chicago Bears. Vinatieri took a leap toward tying this record in that game, hitting five field goals to help Indianapolis secure a 29-23 victory.

This isn’t the only NFL record held by Vinatieri. He currently holds the records among placekickers for the most Super Bowl appearances with five, and the most Super Bowl wins with four. Two of those Super Bowl victories came on late-game kicks by Vinatieri. Vinatieri currently leads the NFL among active players for total points scored.
