Doinked field goals are some of the funniest plays in football. Somehow they are even more embarrassing than your standard missed field goal. Something about the low odds of hitting the skinny post and the echo-y thunk it makes is particularly disrespectful to the kicker, like the sports gods are telling him “lol no.”

But Dustin Hopkins’ doink against the Detroit Lions went past funny. He hit the tippy tip top of the upright, doing something he probably couldn’t do in 1,000 tries if he was actually trying to do it.
In my opinion, the NFL should amend the rules so that hitting the top of the upright is worth 10 points. Put a beer can up there so that kickers have something to aim at. Doing something that difficult deserves some kind of reward.
