There were a lot of turnovers on Sunday in the NFL. As with any week, some mattered and some didn’t. Matt Ryan threw an interception that led to the Chargers winning yet another close game. Julian Edelman’s fumble on a punt return against the Steelers didn’t affect the outcome of the game, but it did lead to one of the best lines of the day:
The NFL had some wild turnovers on Sunday. Let’s rank the best ones.
Ball security isn’t important here.

Both the Browns and the Jets were somehow able to turn their turnovers into offensive gains, while the Vikings and Eagles — the two teams with the fewest turnovers entering Sunday — decided that they were going to see who could turn it over more.
Despite a whopping 39 turnovers to choose from on Sunday, there were a few that stood out to us above the rest.
5. Carson Wentz interception
This got the turnover party in Philadelphia started. Wentz and the Eagles were fortunate that Andrew Sendejo didn’t take that back for a touchdown. And as you can see next, Sam Bradford was kind enough to give it right back to his former team.
4. Sam Bradford’s interception
This game was an absolute mess. The Eagles and the Vikings combine for FIVE turnovers in the first quarter and eight throughout the game. This pick from Bradford came three plays after Wentz had thrown one from the Eagles’ 8-yard line. How can you give that excellent field position up so fast? It’s no wonder the Vikings had their first loss of the season.
3. Kevin Hogan’s interception, Shawn Williams’ fumble
This was a “rewarding” turnover. Hogan threw the ball in the middle of nowhere, where only a Cincinnati Bengals defender was there to grab it. Luckily for the Browns, the ball was fumbled and given right back to them for more yards and a first down. Finally, something went right for the Browns! (Never mind that they fell to 0-7 and lost another quarterback to injury.)
2. Matt Forte fumbles, Timmy Jernigan recovers, then fumbles
This was one of the most ridiculous plays Sunday afternoon, and the most productive turnover as well. Forte was running the ball on second-and-goal, and as a result of his fumble, his team gained a yard and got a first down. It’s a risky strategy, but it paid off: Forte scored three plays later and the Jets snapped their four-game losing streak.
1. Kirk Cousins’ bad handoff to the crotch
This is an obvious No. 1, right? I mean, Mark Sanchez gave us the “butt fumble” back in 2012. You can get creative with the name for this one, but it should be far off from the name of Sanchez’s fumble. This was an all-around disaster: from Cousins falling down, to the discomfort that Matt Jones experienced on the attempted handoff.
You like that?! Well, Cousins and Jones probably didn’t, but we found it amusing.
Just remember, kids: the next time your team commits a turnover, it could be worse. It might feel like a punch to the nuts, but at least it’s not an actual one.
