Bruce Arians thinks the Seahawks’ perfectly legal field goal block was ‘bullshit’

Arians was frustrated following Sunday night’s 6-6 tie with Seattle.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians wasn’t pleased with the officials’ decision to not penalize Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner for hurdling Arizona’s offensive line to block a Chandler Catanzaro field goal attempt in the second quarter of Sunday’s epic 6-6 tie.

”We’ll get some kind of explanation [from the NFL] that’s all bullshit like normal,” Arians said after the game.

Arians believes the play should have been flagged because Wagner clearly made contact with the long snapper, but the rule states that landing on a player is a penalty. Brushing up against an opponent, as Wagner did, is not.

The NFL’s senior vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino, confirmed as much.

The tie was frustrating for Arians.

“It’s disheartening to play that well and not come out with a victory,” Arians said.

Catanzaro missed two field goals against the Seahawks. The first was the blocked field goal attempt, and the second was a chip shot in overtime that would have secured the win for Arizona.

Arians’ frustration wasn’t limited to the officials. He wasn’t pleased with Catanzaro’s performance, either.

“He’s a professional,” Arians said. “This isn’t high school, baby. You get paid to make it.”

Following the tie, the Cardinals are 3-3-1 and second in the NFC West, behind the Seahawks.
