Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak diagnosed with complex migraine condition
The team announced that Kubiak was taken to the hospital as a precaution following Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.

On Monday, the Broncos announced Kubiak was “diagnosed with a complex migraine condition that caused extreme fatigue and body weakness.” While he’s expected back soon for the team, Broncos executive vice president John Elway said he won’t travel with the team for a Thursday Night Football game against the San Diego Chargers and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis will instead take over as head coach.
In 2013, during his tenure as the head coach in Houston, Kubiak collapsed as he was leaving the field at halftime of a Texans game against the Indianapolis Colts. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips took over head coach duties during Kubiak’s absence.
Doctors determined that Kubiak had suffered a transient ischemic attack, also known as a mini-stroke. In the team’s announcement about Kubiak on Sunday, the Broncos noted that Kubiak has paid strict attention to his health since that experience.
Kubiak’s Broncos are 4-1 following Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Falcons.
