The New Orleans Saints may be without Kenny Vaccaro for a month after the safety reportedly violated the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs by using Adderall, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Vaccaro is facing a four-game suspension, but is appealing the ban, making him currently eligible to play in the Saints’ Week 10 game against the Denver Broncos. No team allows more passing yards than the Saints, so losing any player in the secondary is bad news.
While Vaccaro struggled in Week 9 and is part of a somewhat deep rotation for New Orleans at the safety position — with players like Roman Harper and Shiloh Keo ready to fill in at strong safety alongside Jairus Byrd and Vonn Bell at free safety — Vaccaro is one of the better players in the New Orleans secondary, damaging an already struggling group.
Suspensions for Adderall aren’t unprecedented in the NFL. Wes Welker, Richard Sherman, and Aqib Talib all previously served suspensions for using the drug, which enhances focus and energy.
Vaccaro was a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft and the fifth-year option on his contract was picked up in April, keeping him under contract with the Saints through the 2017 season.
