Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters surprised everyone at the end of Kansas City’s 20-17 win over the Carolina Panthers when he punted the ball into the stands, earning a delay of game penalty. After the game, Peters said he’s auditioning to be the Chiefs’ backup punter.
Marcus Peters wants to be Chiefs’ 2nd-string punter, so he booted a football toward the crowd
This all makes sense now.

Peters was asked if he just got caught up in the emotion of the moment, and his answer was a definitive no.
“Hell, no,” Peters said after the game via Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star. “I wanted to do that. I did that last week. I’m auditioning for second-string punter.”
The Chiefs were penalized for delay of game, but at least Peters had a good reason.
If Peters had been swept up in the moment, it would have been understandable. He had just ripped the ball from Kelvin Benjamin’s hands, halting a potential game-winning drive by the Panthers and allowing the Chiefs to hold on for a 20-17 victory.
Instead, Peters is simply auditioning to be Kansas City’s backup punter. He may want to work on his technique a bit because his punt didn’t even make it into the stands.
