In the second quarter of the Seattle Seahawks’ matchup against the New England Patriots, Richard Sherman was flagged for a facemask against Julian Edelman, and he shouldn’t have been.
Richard Sherman got called for a facemask when he grabbed Julian Edelman’s shoulder pad
Sherman argued against the call on the field, and he was right.

Sherman has a hold on Edelman’s shoulder pad, but not the facemask. A flag was thrown, though, and Sherman argued against the call.
Last week against Buffalo, Sherman was also the center of controversy. He was not flagged for unnecessary roughness after hitting Bills kicker Dan Carpenter on a play blown dead because Sherman was also offsides. The officials did not whistle the play dead in time, which was the reason Sherman wasn’t flagged.
Later in the same game, Sherman absolutely laid out Bills wide receiver Walter Powell in the end zone, which was totally legal because quarterback Tyrod Taylor was out of the pocket.
Sherman has been consistently displeased with the officiating this season, yet after the Patriots game, he was more conciliatory.
“They didn’t really see it clearly, so you can’t blame them,” Sherman said. “It’s a bang-bang call.”
