Robert Griffin III is excited about the possibility of returning for the Browns this season

The Cleveland Browns are winless for the NFL season at 0-10, and haven’t really had any signs of hope as the season has progressed.

Much of their pain (at least, this year) started when Robert Griffin III went down with a shoulder injury in their opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Griffin completed 12 of his 26 passes in that game, with 190 yards and an interception.

Since then, the quarterback position has been a mess, to say the least.

Now, after playing Cody Kessler, Josh McCown, Kevin Hogan, Charlie Whitehurst, and even Terrelle Pryor at quarterback, the Browns might get Griffin back, and he’s pretty happy about the prospects of that. “It’s great news,” he told Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “If that’s the case, that’s great news.”

Griffin can be activated at any time, although he’s been on injured reserve. Despite the poor results of the first 10 games, Griffin had an optimistic viewpoint.

“We’ve got six games left this year, a chance to finish strong, and if I get a chance to be a part of that, I definitely want to.”

Griffin was also appreciative of the support that his teammates have shown him since his injury back in September, and said that even if he can’t return this season, he’s going to do what he can to help them win.

As far as a timetable with Griffin goes, he’s going to undergo another scan within the next two weeks to decide whether he will be activated, according to Cabot.

Griffin, like many of us, feels bad for the team.

”Coach Jackson doesn’t deserve to be 0-10, Jimmy Haslam doesn’t deserve to be 0-10, our fans don’t deserve it.”

Even if Griffin is able to come back, Browns head of football operations Sashi Brown said, “Now Cody also is playing well, so we want to give Hue the opportunity to make that decision at the time we know Robert’s an option. Until then, we’re happy with and will look to Cody to continue to push forward.”

At the very worst, it seems the Browns might have a quarterback competition on their hands upon the return of Griffin. In Week 10, when the Browns played the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, Hue Jackson pulled Kessler despite saying he didn’t want to play musical chairs.

Jackson claims he wasn’t playing musical chairs, and that he was trying to give the Browns offense “a chance to function at a faster rate.”

Griffin isn’t expected to be some magic solution to help uplift the Browns to glory, but if he’s able to come in and win even just one game, that’s a good thing.
