Pete Carroll was not impressed by the crowd noise at Gillette Stadium

One of the things the Seattle Seahawks are known for is their raucous home crowd, known as the “12th man.”

Sunday, the Seahawks were on the road playing the Patriots in what was one of the best games of the season thus far, and the Seahawks came out on top, 31-24. When he was asked about the crowd noise in Foxborough, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll wasn’t impressed.

”It’s not a great place,” Carroll told the Brock and Salk show on 710 ESPN Seattle. “They weren’t nuts. It’s because they’re so used to winning. There was a time when they kicked their last field goal to go ahead, and it was like a round of applause for the nice effort.”

Carroll added, “Gosh, our guys would be going berserk.”

The Seahawks and Chiefs went back and forth, exchanging the world record for the loudest roar at a sports stadium. The Chiefs currently hold the record at 142.2 dbA, which they achieved back in 2014.

The CenturyLink Stadium faithful had previously held the record in 2013 with a roar of 137.6 dbA. It was so loud that it actually registered an earthquake.

One thing the New England crowd did, though, was throw verbal jabs at Carroll over his now infamous play call at the end of Super Bow XLIX.

“There was a lot of, ‘Thanks for throwing it.’ That kind of stuff, all that kind of garbage,” Carroll said. “They were just being themselves. It was great. It was classic.”

Surely there was a little more to those comments for Carroll, who used to coach the Patriots from 1997-99 before he was fired. The team was 10-6 in his first season, and regressed each year, with 9-7 and 8-8 records following.

Between that spectacle of a game we saw on Sunday night and Carroll’s comments above, you can’t help but imagine how awesome a Super Bowl rematch would be between the two teams.

Despite the crowd’s perceived lack of enthusiasm, Carroll says he still enjoyed the game. “It was pretty fun. I’ve gotta admit, I haven’t had more fun just enjoying a win, really.”
