Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith celebrated the birth of his son on Tuesday, while still mourning the loss of his brother, who was shot and killed on Sunday night.

Smith’s brother, Brian Keith Moore, was shot to death on Sunday evening at a residence in Valdosta, Ga. Local police say they have determined a motive, but declined to make that information public.

Smith mourned his brother’s death on his Instagram account.

The Jaguars granted Smith leave from the team to be with his family in the aftermath of his brother’s death.

On Tuesday, Smith experienced the opposite end of the emotional spectrum as he welcomed a new baby boy, according to ESPN’s Mike DiRocco.

It is unclear at this time when Smith, who has 71 tackles and four pass deflections this season for the Jaguars, will return to the team. Jacksonville faces the NFC North-leading Lions in Detroit on Sunday.
