Ray Lewis doesn’t think Joe Flacco’s passion is elite

Not everyone is the same in the huddle.

Ray Lewis, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, has questions about Joe Flacco’s passion for football.

Lewis and Flacco were teammates from 2008 to 2012. In fact, they won a Super Bowl four years ago against the San Francisco 49ers.

Lewis said this about his former quarterback: “Gifted? Absolutely. Passionate about what he do? I’ve never seen that,” Lewis told Fox Sports 1 on Thursday. “I don’t know what that looks like.”

Lewis did mention that Flacco is not a “rah-rah guy.” However, he said, “in the game of football, there has to be some burning fire behind you.” Towards the end of Lewis’ career in 2012, he wanted Flacco to be more vocal.

Lewis and Flacco do not have the same personality. Lewis was an in-your-face linebacker who inspired so many players on his team to elevate their level of play. He was truly a vocal leader.

Flacco, on the other hand, is more of a reserved guy. During games, whether it is a good or bad play, Lewis mentioned that Flacco distanced himself from his teammates.

Lewis went on to say this: “Some people will be co-workers, some people will be teammates and then some people you may call friends, I call Joe Flacco a teammate.”

Meanwhile, back in 2013, Flacco, said he loves Lewis but also said a lot his speeches did not make sense.

“He meant everything he was saying, but I didn’t know what he was talking about 90 percent of the time.”

The Ravens (5-4), who are atop of the AFC North, will face the Dallas Cowboys (8-1) on Sunday.
