The Cleveland Browns have been pretty miserable this season at 0-11, but the Bears have given them a run for their money at 2-8, and more injuries than you could possibly imagine for a single team.
Jay Cutler’s shoulder injury is just the latest for the unlucky Chicago Bears
They just cannot catch a break.

Monday afternoon, it was reported that Jay Cutler had a shoulder injury that could possibly end his season. Tuesday morning, it was reported that Cutler was believed to have a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Whether it’s a season-ending injury or not, it’s yet another in a long, unfortunate string of them for John Fox’s team.
Since their first unofficial depth chart was released, the Bears have lost three quarterbacks, two wide receivers, a tight end, right guard, center, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and a cornerback.
Below, Cody Whitehair is listed as the first-string depth chart, because the first unofficial depth chart was released after left guard Hroniss Grasu tore his ACL and was ruled out for the season. All players highlighted in red have started, and have been lost to injury.
Jeffery is the lone player on offense that is not injured, as he was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He’s eligible to return to the team on Dec. 18 against the Packers.
Zach Miller is one of the more recent injuries the offense has sustained, and it was a huge loss. Miller was the second-leading receiver on the team behind Jeffery, and led the team in receiving touchdowns with four before he broke his foot. The game before Miller’s injury, the Bears lost right guard Kyle Long, who has been named to the Pro Bowl every year he’s since entering the league in 2013.
Brian Hoyer appeared like he could have taken Cutler’s job with his performances after Cutler’s initial thumb injury he suffered in Week 2. Unfortunately for Hoyer, he broke his arm in Week 7.
At running back, rookie Jordan Howard really wasn’t in the picture, but after Jeremy Langford sprained his ankle in Week 3 against the Cowboys, he emerged as their starter. After all of the injuries the Bears have suffered leading up to Week 12, Howard might be the Bears best player left on offense with 682 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, it’s a bad look, too:
Like Jeffery, Jerrell Freeman is the only player on the defensive side that is suspended, and he also received four games for violating the league’s PED policy. He’s eligible to return the week after Jeffery, when they play Washington on Christmas Eve.
Also, despite Leonard Floyd being listed under third string, he started for the Bears during the season, and showed a ton of promise. He suffered a frightening neck injury after going head-first into the thigh of a teammate this past Sunday. Head coach John Fox was hopeful for Floyd, saying that, “things look encouraging.” Fox wasn’t able to anticipate whether Floyd would travel with the team this week, and added, “he seemed to have pretty good movement skills,” when he was being taken off the field initially.
One player we haven’t seen this season is cornerback Kyle Fuller, who was placed on injured reserve early after having a knee scope. Fuller was the 14th overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, and was a key piece to the Bears’ secondary in his first two seasons.
On top of those players that are out above, offensive tackle Bobby Massie, defensive end Mitch Unrein, and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman all missed the Bears’ Week 11 game against the Giants. Starting cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc had to leave the game with a concussion.
Guard Josh Sitton could miss Week 12 against the Titans, with an ankle injury that had him carted off against the Giants, as well as Massie, as he is still in concussion protocol.
Sitton has missed two games this season, in Weeks 7 and 8 due to an ankle injury. An already trying season could continue to get worse before it gets better.
The tough thing for the Bears too, is that they’ve actually been competing in some of these games. They just haven’t been able to pull through because of the exhaustive list of injuries, and their outlook doesn’t look improved from Week 11 going into Week 12.
Perhaps the only thing they have to really look forward to at this point is a high draft pick.
