After nailing four field goals and an extra point attempt in a 19-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie kicker Roberto Aguayo was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Nailed it!

While the rookie kicker was enjoying success, other kickers weren’t. In Week 11, NFL kickers missed a record-breaking 12 extra points.
On the other hand, Aguayo was perfect against the Chiefs last week. The Bucs raised eyebrows when they drafted Aguayo in the second round, and it didn’t help their case when he struggled earlier in the season. He has only made 13 out of his 18 field goal attempts, or 72 percent, this season. Aguayo is also 20 for 22 when attempting PATs.
In Week 5, Aguayo’s up-and-down performance was on full display during a divisional matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Monday night. In Tampa Bay’s 17-14 victory against its division rival, he missed field goals from 33 and 46 yards.
However, with the game tied at 14 in the fourth quarter, the rookie nailed a game-winning 38-yard field goal.
The Buccaneers are currently in second place in the NFC South at 5-5. Field goals are especially important at this point in the season. Games are always much closer in November and December.
If Tampa Bay wants to clinch a playoff spot, Aguayo must continue to build off of his performance against Kansas City.
