New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was not expected to play in Week 12 against the New York Jets because of a chest injury, according to Dianna Russini of ESPN. However, there’s a slim chance that he will take the field. He practiced on Wednesday, albeit in a limited role, and CBS Sports reports that he could play this week.
Rob Gronkowski has a chance of playing in Patriots vs. Jets Week 12 game
The Patriots tight end was limited at practice on Wednesday, and there’s a slim chance he’ll suit up this week.

Gronkowski was injured on a big hit from Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas in Week 10, and he didn’t suit up against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. However, he is expected to play against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 4. Gronkowski has 25 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns this season, and he is the team’s leading receiver.
Martellus Bennett and Matt Lengel are the only two tight ends on the roster. Bennett has 39 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns.
Even with the absence of Gronkowski, the Patriots are still lethal on offense. Led by quarterback Tom Brady, New England can still light up the scoreboard and move the chains.
The Jets defense is having a huge problem with stopping the pass. New York’s 19th-ranked pass defense will have to stop receivers Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and rookie Malcolm Mitchell. Without Gronkowski, Brady targeted Mitchell and Edelman often against the 49ers.
Bennett is also a dangerous tight end with the ball in his hands. There are still a lot of weapons on the Patriots offense that the Jets have to watch out for this Sunday.
