Former Chiefs and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez currently holds the record for the most touchdowns of any player in history at that position, with 110 scores over the course of his 17-year career. San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates needs three more to break that record.
Antonio Gates is 3 touchdowns away from history
The Chargers legend needs three more scores to break Tony Gonzalez’s record.

Gates, 36, is in his 14th season in the NFL, all of which have been spent in San Diego. He currently has 109 touchdowns, including five in eight games this season.
The Chargers are in Houston this week. Gates has two touchdown catches in three career games against the Texans. If he doesn’t break the record this week, it could happen in Week 13, when the Chargers play host to the Buccaneers and their very porous pass defense.
Next on the list of active tight ends is Rob Gronkowski, who has 68 touchdowns, including 17 in the 2011 season, a number that led all players that year for receiving touchdowns. Gronk is currently in his seventh season in the NFL, and if he can stay healthy, he’s got a good chance at breaking the record someday.
