Army beat Navy on Saturday, 21-17, to snap a 14-game losing streak in the teams’ awesome rivalry series. It’s an emotional deal for the Black Knights – many of whom were visibly emotional at the game’s end, including coaches crying in the press box.
Navy left a spot on its helmet for a 15th win in a row vs. Army. Then Army won.
A good idea that needed better execution.

Something that won’t make it any less sweet? Helmets.
Navy left room to add a 15th star for a 15th win in a row against Army on a stripe running down the center of its helmets. It was a pretty savage rivalry move, to be honest. But its legacy hinged on Navy actually winning the game.
Otherwise, the Mids risked getting made fun of for leaving room to account for a victory they didn’t actually get. It’s part of the package when you design a helmet like this. (It was part of a generally badass uniforms package for the two teams.)
There will be no making fun of Navy here. The Mids are a good football team, and they fought hard with a backup quarterback in this game.
But if the Black Knights want to order a couple of these helmets and hang them up in their football offices (or, hell, in their quarters in the Pentagon, or at military bases, or wherever), nobody’s going to begrudge them.
Congratulations on ending one of the driest of college football spells, Army.
