Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill does not have a torn ACL, which is what many believed following a low hit by Calais Campbell in Sunday’s win over the Cardinals. Head coach Adam Gase revealed the news on Monday morning that Tannehill had a sprained ACL and MCL in his knee.
Ryan Tannehill’s ACL is not torn. It’s only sprained.
The Dolphins feared the worst on Sunday, but they got slightly better news.

He is not expected to require surgery, which speeds up the recovery process. There is currently no timetable for his return. The Dolphins have three games left to play this season, and are still chasing a wild-card bid in the AFC.
The veteran quarterback suffered the injury in the third quarter when Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell tried to bring him down for a sack.
After the game, Gase could not confirm if his veteran quarterback suffered an ACL tear.
“We don’t know anything official yet, but it doesn’t look good. We’ll get it confirmed tomorrow.”
It looked like the worst had happened, but Monday’s news is at least a little better for the Dolphins and their fans.
For his part, Campbell said the hit was unintentional. “It was slippery. … It sucks. You never want to see a guy down and go out for the game. I hope he’s OK. I hope he’s not seriously hurt. I’m praying for him,” he said.
Tannehill’s teammates felt like it was a dirty hit, but the tape appears to show otherwise. Campbell was pushed from behind by Dolphins left tackle Branden Albert and into Tannehill’s lower leg.
Miami’s backup quarterback Matt Moore replaced Tannehill in the third quarter. Moore completed three out of his five attempts for 47 yards. His 29-yard pass to receiver Kenny Stills set up the game-winning field goal by kicker Andrew Franks.
At 8-5, Miami has a chance to clinch a wild-card spot in the AFC. However, if the Dolphins want to make it the postseason, they must continue to play good defense and run the ball.
Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi will likely see his workload increase. The second-year running back is having a fantastic season with 956 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He also averages 5 yards per rush.
”He’s the only backup QB with a winning record,” Gase added on Monday, talking up Tannehill’s replacement. “Guys know that he knows what he’s doing.”
If Moore can extend drives, make a couple of plays in the passing game, and avoid turnovers, then the Dolphins still have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs.
