J.J. Redick records a rare chasedown block on C.J. McCollum
The Clippers’ shooter picked up his 43rd career block chasing down C.J. McCollum.

J.J. Redick isn’t known for athleticism. The 32-year-old shooter is known for his scoring, most of which comes off spot-up perimeter jump shooting.
But on Tuesday, Redick pulled a trick out of his hat. With about five minutes remaining in the first quarter of the Clippers’ matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, while the team’s primary shot-blocker DeAndre Jordan went straight up for a block, Redick followed a driving C.J. McCollum and punched his lay-up attempt off the backboard.
Los Angeles’ guard has averaged 0.1 blocks per game throughout his career, and his rejection of McCollum’s lay-up was just the 43rd block of his 12-year tenure in the league. It was Redick’s first block since Nov. 19 — he had a rejection in three consecutive games at that point — and just his fourth of the season.
Jordan may lead the Clippers in blocks per game, but he’ll surely take any help he can get down low.
