Richard Sherman says Thursday night games are an ‘absolute poopfest’

Richard Sherman has made it known in the past that he doesn’t like Thursday Night Football, and he spoke similar sentiments on Tuesday afternoon during his press conference, calling it an “absolute poopfest.”

“It’s terrible,” Sherman said. “We played, got home at like 1 o’clock in the morning something like that on Monday, and then you got to play again. I mean, congratulations NFL, you did it again. But they’ve been doing it all season so I guess we’re the last ones to get the middle finger.”

The Seahawks are set to take on the Rams Thursday night.

Sherman said that his body feels to be about 50 or 60 percent healthy on Thursdays, and said that he could tell that guys aren’t the same on Thursday night games.

“You can tell, as a player, you know everybody’s banged up and moving slower. It’s not going to really show to the naked eye. They’re like, ‘Oh the play is sloppier.’ The play isn’t any sloppier.”

Sherman added that he felt the bad football on the field on Thursday night games was all fabricated by the media, because of a lack of understanding for the condition of the players heading into those games.

He was asked if the players union saw a window to get rid of Thursday games, and said that he didn’t, but that they would look for that in the next negotiations after the current CBA expires in 2020.

“They do not, they do not. But we will be well aware come the next CBA negotiations about things like this. There’s not much you can do right now it’s part of the revenue, et cetera, et cetera and the league might have something else up their sleeve. They might have a Friday night game planned, who knows.”

When asked where Thursday night games rank in his pet peeves, Sherman said that it was up there in the ranks.

“Top five, top five, top five. Because it’s just no regard you know, it’s hypocritical, as I’ve stated before. They make this huge stance about player safety, then you put the players in tremendous danger.”

That’s just about the exact gripe he had last season, saying that, “It’s rough on the body. Any time you play a football game and play another one a few days later, it’s going to be tough on the body. But it’s just another one of those things. Another one of those simple contradictions of the league, because they care about us.”

Sherman says a lot, but he’s always consistent with his message. He also makes a good case for players and their health in his criticisms, even if he uses a word like “poopfest.”
