The Arizona Cardinals have cut wide receiver Michael Floyd, according to Darren Urban of AzCardinals.com. Floyd was arrested for a DUI early Monday morning after Arizona’s loss to the Dolphins in Miami.
Michael Floyd released by Cardinals after DUI arrest
Arizona did not waste any time.

Floyd has not lived up to the Cardinals’ expectations this year, and was set to become a free agent after the season. Floyd had just 33 receptions for 446 yards and four touchdowns this season, which were career lows for him in each category.
He was also prone to dropping catchable passes this season. General manager Steve Keim mentioned that this year, the big plays Floyd is capable of had not materialized to balance out the drops.
“In the past, there’s been some inconsistencies, whether it was dropped balls or other things that came with his game,” Keim said. “At the same time he made big plays to compensate for that. That’s the one area where, quite frankly, we haven’t seen this year.”
The DUI arrest was the final straw for the Cardinals, and it wasn’t Floyd’s first DUI. He was arrested in 2011 while still a student-athlete at Notre Dame with a blood-alcohol level that was twice the legal limit. He was suspended indefinitely by Notre Dame, which ended up lasting until August 2011. The Cardinals selected Floyd 13th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Monday’s DUI arrest left Floyd charged with two counts of driving under the influence, as well as one count of obstructing a roadway and failure to obey a police officer. According to the Scottsdale Police Department, Floyd fell asleep behind the wheel.
Bruce Arians addressed the media after practice and made it clear he wasn’t interested in discussing Floyd’s release.
If any team does decide to claim Floyd off of waivers, they’ll be on the hook for the remainder of his contract for this season.
Arians did confirm that he, Keim, and Michael Bidwill were in agreement on the decision to move on from Floyd. The Cardinals have signed wide receiver Jeremy Ross, who has spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets, to fill the open roster spot.
