The 2016 NFL season will go down as the one that uprooted the Buddy Ryan coaching tree. The Rams fired Jeff Fisher after Week 14, and Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that the Buffalo Bills are expected to fire Rex Ryan after the season.
Rex Ryan is probably getting fired by the Bills when the season ends
It’s been a bad year for the Buddy Ryan coaching tree.

Making the situation that much more awkward is that Ryan supposedly knows it’s coming with three games left to play.
The Bills started the season well enough. After struggling out of the gate, they fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman and promoted running backs coach Anthony Lynn. The move paid immediate dividends, and by Week 6, the Bills were 4-2, including a road win over the Patriots.
But in true Rex Ryan fashion, those gains were all squandered. The Bills lost their next three and now sit at 6-7 with no real shot at a wild card berth. For those of you who still care enough to count, the last time the Bills went to the playoffs was 1999.
Schefter reported that the Bills are likely to keep general manager Doug Whaley, who’ll now be hiring his third head coach. That might be a mistake. Whaley hired Doug Marrone in 2013 and Ryan two years later.
As for Ryan, this ends his second stint as an NFL head coach, eight seasons. He had a winning record in his first years with the Jets, 2009 and 2010, but has never managed to top .500 since then. He finished 8-8 with the Bills last year.
Hey, good news, Bills. Jeff Fisher wants to coach again! Then again, getting to 7-9 isn’t really a problem for the Bills, so maybe aim a little higher.
