It’s been no secret that Brock Osweiler has had a tough 2016 season. It’s his first year with the Houston Texans after splitting time with Peyton Manning, and although they’re fighting for a playoff spot, he was benched on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in favor of Tom Savage.
Brock Osweiler benched for Tom Savage vs. Jaguars and the crowd loves it
Bill O’Brien decided it was time to get Savage some burn.

Savage was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. This is his first appearance since then, when he appeared in two games for the Texans. He’s thrown 19 passes in his short NFL career, completing 10 of those for 127 yards and one interception.
Osweiler was 6-for-11 passing with 48 yards and two interceptions, the second of which had head coach Bill O’Brien have Savage warm up and enter the game. Osweiler came into Sunday’s game completing nearly 60 percent of his passes, with 2,656 yards and 14 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.
The move took a while for the Texans to make, but financial implications might explain that:
Fans were extremely happy with the move. When they saw Savage taking the field, he received a booming ovation from the crowd.
Savage nearly led the Texans to a touchdown on his first drive of the game, so things are looking somewhat better for Houston.
