Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson named Robert Griffin III the starter for the team’s Week 16 matchup against the San Diego Chargers.
RG3 will remain starting QB this week, but Browns looking for progress
Browns coach Hue Jackson wants to see more of Cody Kessler still this season.

Griffin had an up-and-down performance in the Brown’s 33-13 loss against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15. He completed 17 out of his 28 pass attempts for 196 yards and ran in an 18-yard touchdown in the third quarter. While the veteran signal-caller did not commit any turnovers, he was sacked five times.
Following the game, Jackson did not say who was going to start at quarterback in Week 16 against the Chargers. However, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jackson said, “everything’s going on the table.”
“I’m going to look at everything. I just have to. I owe these guys the best opportunity to win in the locker room. With the effort they’re giving me, I have to give back to them as a leader. I have to make sure I’m putting the right people out there for them.”
On Dec. 8, Jackson named Griffin the starter for the team’s remaining four games to see if he was capable of being the team’s starting quarterback in the future.
Even though Jackson named Griffin the starter, Jackson is still looking for progress from his QB:
RG3 could also be on a short leash if he doesn’t perform well:
Now that Griffin will start, he must focus his attention to the Chargers. If the Browns want to come away with a victory, the defense must play better, and Griffin has to use his arm and legs to make plays. Also, Cleveland has to do a better job of running the football.
The Browns only have two games left to try to avoid going 0-16.
