The Arizona Cardinals’ team website may have accidentally started a big rumor when it grabbed a quote from Larry Fitzgerald pushing off thoughts of playing football next year.
Larry Fitzgerald might have just hinted at retirement
Don’t leave us yet, Larry!

“I got two more games to go (this season),” Fitzgerald told Kyle Odegard. “I will play those games as hard as I can against two division opponents and we will see what goes on this offseason. My attention is solely focused on Seattle this Saturday.”
That’s ... uh ... ominous.
To be clear, the All-Pro wideout did not say one way or the other if he’s thinking about retiring. But he was specifically asked about his playing future. In the midst of a losing season, it surely has to be hard to think about putting your body through another 16 games, so let’s hold off on saying goodbye to one of the greats.
Fitzgerald is signed through next season and could become a free agent then. There are certainly a number of teams who would take him if it ever got to that point. That’s jumping far ahead, though.
The 33-year-old receiver is 51 yards away from his eighth career 1,000-yard season and has five touchdowns on the year (but none since Week 5). He’s currently 10th all-time in receiving yards with 14,315.
This may just be a veteran player struggling with another lost season. But it’s worth keeping an eye on — especially with conflicting reports earlier this year that this may be it for Fitzgerald.
