It’s been a pretty good season so far for the 10-4 New York Giants, a nice bounce-back year under rookie head coach Ben McAdoo, walkie-talkies and all. Washington losing to Carolina on Monday night very nearly assures Big Blue of a ticket to the playoffs.
Why a 10-6 Lions team could make the NFL playoffs over a 10-6 Giants team that beat them
There are a lot of “ifs” involved, but it could totally happen.

However, there’s a scenario, albeit a slim one, where the Giants don’t make it and the Detroit Lions, who the Giants beat in Week 15, could slide in with the exact same record.
Pay attention, because this is confusing shit.

The NFC South runner-up, Giants, and Lions could all finish the season at 10-6 apiece. That means the Giants lose their next two, the NFC South runner-up finishes 10-6, and the Lions beat the Cowboys on Monday night in Week 16.
Then, assume the Packers win out and fight their way to an NFC North title, beating the Lions in Week 17. Next, assume both the Falcons and Bucs finish with at least 10 wins.
If that were to happen, then the Lions and NFC South runner-up would get the NFC wild card spots. The Giants would be left out because the Lions and NFC South runner-up win the tiebreaker of 10-6 teams based on their conference record.
And that’s how the Giants could finish the year with a 10-6 record and still miss the playoffs.
