Aaron Hernandez acquitted in Boston double murder, still serving life sentence

Aaron Hernandez has been acquitted in a 2012 double slaying, according to the Associated Press.

The jury found Hernandez not guilty in the first-degree murders of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu. Prosecutors had claimed that Hernandez gunned them down after one bumped into him at a nightclub, spilling his drink.

The only conviction he faced in the case was for unlawful gun possession.

The defense claimed that Alexander Bradley — who was a friend to Hernandez -- was responsible for the shooting. Bradley claimed that Hernandez had shot him in the face months later after commenting on the shooting of Furtado and de Abreu, which caused him to lose his right eye.

Hernandez was also acquitted of shooting Bradley in the face.

In December of 2016, a man who survived the drive-by shooting in 2012 in Boston claimed that the former New England Patriots tight end was the shooter.

Raychides Sanches was asked by prosecutors to describe the scene in Suffolk Superior Court, where Sanches said Hernandez was the shooter, and reportedly nodded in his direction.

“We were in panic,” Sanches said back in December in Suffolk Superior Court, via the Boston Globe. “Screaming, crying, crazy.’’

Hernandez is already serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was a former linebacker for a semi-pro football team. Hernandez was cut by the Patriots shortly after being arrested for Lloyd’s killing.
