The New York Jets are back to Ryan Fitzpatrick once again after Bryce Petty injured his shoulder tackling New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler. Petty was first said to be questionable to return, but was eventually ruled out.
Bryce Petty goes to locker room with shoulder injury after making a tackle vs. Patriots
Bryce Petty had to bring down Malcolm Butler and hurt himself in the process.
Petty made the tackle on Butler after the cornerback scooped up a fumble by Jets running back Khiry Robinson in New York territory. Had the quarterback not made the tackle, Butler likely would have had a clear path to the end zone.
The carry for Robinson was his first with the Jets — he signed with the team in the offseason but suffered an injury before the season. He previously played three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
Petty was forced to leave in Week 15 as well, after Miami Dolphins pass rushers Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake combined to hit him in a game last Saturday.
Fitzpatrick began the season as the starter for the Jets but has just 10 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 12 games for the team. He was benched for Geno Smith, but Smith suffered a season-ending knee injury and Fitzpatrick was benched again for Petty, who has now had to replace quarterbacks in consecutive weeks.
