It sounded as if New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles might miss his team’s matchup against the New England Patriots entirely. Bowles was hospitalized the day before the game, but he managed to make it to the sideline for New England’s 41-3 beatdown of the Jets.
Jets coach Todd Bowles is having the worst Christmas weekend ever
Not only did his team lose 41-3 to the Patriots, but Bowles is also dealing with kidney stones and gall stones.

Bowles did this despite dealing with a truly horrible combination of kidney stones and gall stones.
If you’ve experienced either kidney stones or gall stones, you know that either is bad enough on its own. Bowles has both at the same time, and he was coaching his team through an awful loss in what had to be immeasurable pain.
Bowles was taken to the hospital on Friday and admitted with chest pains, nausea, and vomiting, according to Around the NFL. He was released and traveled to join the team in New England on Saturday. Had Bowles been unable to coach, assistant Mike Caldwell would have stepped in for him. Bowles, however, toughed it out.
Bowles told reporters he would undergo a medical procedure this offseason to address the kidney stones.
Having Bowles on the sideline didn’t make much of a difference for the Jets, who were outmatched against New England. Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed just eight of 21 passes for 136 yards and two interceptions. With the loss, New York falls to 4-11.
