The New York Jets announced Monday that they have placed quarterback Bryce Petty on injured reserve with a torn labrum.
Jets place Bryce Petty on injured reserve
Petty has a torn labrum and is out for the remainder of the season.

Petty took over as the starter when Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched for Week 10, but it was short-lived. He went 19-of-32 for 163 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Petty was slated to start the final four games of the season, but injury cut that opportunity short.
The injury occurred when Petty tackled Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler following a turnover in the second quarter of the Jets’ 41-3 loss to New England.
“I went to tackle him and when I did, I guess he hit my shoulder and it kind of popped out,” said Petty.
Following the injury, Fitzpatrick took the field at quarterback for the Jets. Fitzpatrick finished the game 8-of-21 passing for 136 yards and two interceptions.
The Jets will be back to Fitzpatrick as the starter with Petty out for Week 17. This season Fitzpatrick has struggled mightily, completing 55.8 percent of his passes for 2,500 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions in 13 games (10 starts).
The Jets also have rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg waiting in the wings, though head coach Todd Bowles didn’t sound optimistic about Hackenberg seeing the field prior to Petty’s injury.
”If we get down to the third quarterback, we’re probably getting killed in the first place,” Bowles said prior to the Jets’ loss to the Patriots, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.
In six games (four starts) this season, Petty threw for 809 yards with three touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Jets finish the season this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in New York.
