The Dallas Cowboys came into Monday night’s game against the Detroit Lions with the league’s best rushing defense, giving up just 80.9 yards per game.
Zach Zenner is the Lions RB you’ve probably never heard of, and he’s giving the Cowboys fits
He’s on a big stage, and having a big performance.

Zach Zenner was tapped with his third start of the season, and fourth of his career. He’s totally taken advantage of it, rushing for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter and a half of game time.
First, Zenner made it in after going untouched on the Lions’ first drive of the game.
After that, Zenner gave the Lions a 21-14 lead, with yet another touchdown run midway through the second quarter.
If it seems like Zenner came out of nowhere, he sorta did. Through 12 games this season, Zenner had just 56 carries, and had double-digit carries just once this season in a Week 6 contest against the Rams, where he had a season-high 58 yards.
Zenner was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2015, after a college career at South Dakota State. They were the only program to offer him a scholarship. In college, he rushed for 2,000+ yards in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
In his first season with the Lions, Zenner saw just six games of action, starting one of them. He had 17 carries for the entire season, accumulating 60 yards.
His work may not be done on Monday night, but it’s definitely the best game of his pro career up to this point.
