This season, the NFL allowed players to wear personalized cleats for a special cause in Week 13. Since the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns were on a bye week last week, it was expected that players from both teams couldn’t participate in My Cause My Cleats. However, the NFL has changed its mind.
NFL decides to let Titans, Browns wear cleats for good causes despite bye week

According to ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky, players from the Titans and the Browns will be able to participate in Week 14. Initially, according to Titans cornerback Jason McCourty, the NFL told his team that they can wear their personalized cleats during pregame, not during the game.
However, the veteran cornerback told Kuharsky that he would have been willing to wear his cleats and take the fine. Titans tight end Delaine Walker was in the same boat as McCourty.
Walker’s cleats honor MADD and Delanie Walker Gives Back. McCourty’s cleats will raise awareness for Tackle Sickle Cell, a joint charity that he and his brother, Devin, share together.
Prior to the news, McCourty said, “I guess at some point there were going to be two teams at any given week that wouldn’t be playing, so you kind of get screwed in that sense. That just happened to be us.”
Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was planning on avoiding a fine and not wearing his personalized cleats during the game:
The Titans will face the Denver Broncos in a Week 14 matchup in Nashville, while the Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals. At first, it appeared any player wearing specialized cleats would have to have paid the price. Now, they’ll just be able to promote their causes, as it should be.
