The Carolina Panthers’ strict dress code rules played into the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13, but Richard Sherman doesn’t disagree with the way Ron Rivera handled things. However, he says it’s a situation the Seahawks would never find themselves in.
Richard Sherman agrees with dress code punishment for Cam Newton
Richard Sherman says the Seahawks would never have to deal with the dress code fiasco that the Panthers had.

“If you are asking have we ever run into anything like that? We haven’t,” Sherman told Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “Pete [Carroll] is a pretty cool guy. Don’t be disrespectful and most guys respect the things he says and are pretty good about that.”
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton sat for Carolina’s first offensive series after not wearing a tie for the team’s road trip to Seattle. While backup quarterback Derek Anderson threw an interception on his first pass, both Rivera and Newton shrugged off the punishment and said it wasn’t the reason for a 40-7 loss.
Sherman came to the defense of Rivera, and said that he agreed with the coach’s punishment.
“I agree. You’ve got accountability,” Sherman said about Rivera’s decision to sit Newton. “You’ve got to hold everybody accountable the same. When you start treating guys different it’s a slippery slope.”
But ultimately, the reason why Seattle doesn’t deal with similar punishments is because the team’s dress code rules are much less strict.
“Very ambiguous but nicer,” Sherman said of the team’s dress rules. “But put your shoes on — he doesn’t like me wearing my Uggs. For two-day trips it’s more casual because it’s obviously going to be a time change and a longer flight, so he allows us to wear kind of whatever you put on.”
The Seahawks have a chance at clinching the NFC West in Week 14 if they can beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. And none of the team’s playmakers will stay sidelined for forgetting a tie.
