Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter arguably has the best name in the NFL among players and coaches, and he’s got a fan on the opposite sideline come Sunday.

Chicago Bears head coach John Fox said in a teleconference with reporters that he loves to say his name, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“I love the name,” Fox said in a teleconference with Detroit reporters. “He and (Minnesota Vikings cornerback) Captain Munnerlyn. I recruited Captain way back when I was in Carolina. Those two are right up there (as the best names in sports), player and coach. But I love saying Jim Bob’s name.”

His full name, is James Robert Cooter.

Cooter has discussed his name to the Detroit Free Press in the past. When asked about where his name came from, he understandably wasn’t sure. “I mean, that’s just -- I didn’t make a conscious decision,” Cooter said. “I think maybe my parents were really into marketing, so we were trying to sell some T-shirts from an early age.”

He also touched on the way his name is received in different places across the country. “As I move around, I’ve been in a couple different cities at this point, it certainly -- the farther north or west you get, away from the Southeast, it tends to get a little extra scare,” Cooter said. “So maybe I give a different name when I’m waiting on my sandwich or whatever that whole thing is, just to save that one.”

Fox and Cooter have a history. Cooter was hired by Fox as an offensive assistant with the Broncos in 2013. Fox tried to take him to Chicago, but Cooter had bigger plans in Detroit, when he went from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator.

All jokes aside, Cooter’s been great for the Lions offense this season. Matthew Stafford is looking as great as he ever has, leading the Lions to an 8-4 record and first place in the NFC North.
