Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are the NBA’s best brothers

Good morning! That and more in Friday’s NBA newsletter.

Good morning! Let’s basketball.

THE ODD COUPLE: First, watch this video (or look above to find it) on the special, hilarious bond that Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan share together. Then, read this string of tweets to see them clowning on each other’s shot selection after a Raptors win over the Timberwolves. These guys need their own podcast.

THIS WAS A GOOD SHOT, THOUGH: Poor Ricky Rubio.

THIS IS HERE FOR BASKETBALL REASONS: Thursday was the five-year anniversary of David Stern’s veto of a Chris Paul trade to the Lakers, one of the more remarkable moments in NBA history. (Though if you ask the lawyerly Stern, he didn’t “veto” anything). Kristian Winfield looks at what might have been for all parties involved. Tom Ziller correctly explains why Stern should never have been in a position to decide Paul’s future in the first place.

“I’M A KING:” I enjoyed how Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Mannix didn’t automatically capitalize the word “king” in this DeMarcus Cousins quote. Gives it a dual meaning.

I’M CONFUSED: Some of the incentives in Donatas Motiejunas’ offer sheet from the Nets are hyper-specific. I understand why D-Mo’s team is annoyed that Houston can get a discount by only matching the primary terms, but they should have realized that before signing the offer sheet with Brooklyn.

WE TOLD YOU TO TRUST IT: The 76ers picked up their first road win of the season. Joel Embiid is right on schedule.

YOU KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN: Kevin Garnett forgot to push the cuss button when responding to a critical tweet.

LOVE THESE: Golden State of Mind’s “Explain One Play” series looks at a killer backdoor lob from the Warriors’ win over the Jazz.

BIG KAT: The Timberwolves lost again, but enjoy Karl-Anthony Towns destroying poor Jonas Valanciunas’ soul.

NICE JACKET, CHUCK: You have to see it to believe it.

BLAH CITY: Kristian shows how the Warriors blanketed Blake Griffin on Wednesday night. The reality for the Clippers is simple: if Griffin can’t win the matchup with Draymond Green, they have no chance.

INTERESTING: Rick Carlisle has been calling timeouts when he doesn’t have any late in blowout games, even if it means a technical foul. Here’s his explanation, and it actually makes a lot of sense.

I COULD USE THESE: SI’s Jake Fischer explains how the Blazers travel with a special supply of Sad lights to brighten each player’s locker on the road. The idea is to alleviate Seasonal Affective Disorder. It’s fascinating what some teams will do to try to gain a competitive advantage.

“STUBHUB FANBASE”: If I’m Damian Lillard, that’s how I’d respond to these (very creative) Bucks taunts.

WORKS FOR ME: Some San Antonioans wrote in Gregg Popovich when casting their votes for president. He barely came out ahead in a tight race with Deez Nuts.

Tom returns next week. Have a splendid weekend.
