Jerry Jones is dreaming of a Hollywood finish for the Cowboys with Tony Romo as the star

Dak Prescott needs to step aside so Tony Romo can shine, apparently.

Jerry Jones is feeling optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys’ chances at a Super Bowl run and he’s dreaming of the perfect finish to the 2016 season. But apparently, that scenario stars Tony Romo at quarterback and Dak Prescott on the sidelines.

“I think Romo is going to get his opportunity,” Jones told the New York Daily News on Thursday. “I don’t want it to happen. But I think he may get his opportunity to get us a Super Bowl.”

But wait, what about Prescott? You know — the rookie with a 108.6 passer rating, 19 touchdowns and only two interceptions?

“While that’s a mixed bag when I think about it — that means you don’t have Dak out there — but it means, what a story, one for the ages, if he’d step in there and this year help us win a Super Bowl on the field with his skill,” Jones said. “That can happen here. We’re not talking about a bus driver out there. We’re talking about a guy who can go out there and move our team.”

Franchise quarterback of the future be damned, Jones wants that Hollywood finish. And there’s no better story in Jones’ eyes, than the redemption tour for Romo.

Is he rooting for Prescott to get injured? Maybe not quite, but it certainly sounds like Jones would prefer if events caused the rookie to stay on the sideline. He also said it’s his intention to keep Romo in Dallas for the 2017 season.

“I think it is possible that he could be in Dallas and it’s good for him and good for us and be the smart thing to do,” Jones said. “How many times have we ever seen one drawn up where you see that kind of depth at the quarterback position? How many times do you have to be reminded if we had the concussion protocol the way we had it today, Troy Aikman wouldn’t have played in the second Super Bowl.”

Prescott and the Cowboys’ other superstar rookie Ezekiel Elliott have led the team to an 11-1 record, but apparently they’re just not the ones to lead the dream finish for Jones.
